Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) is a digital asset that operates on the Ethereum blockchain. It is a tokenized version of Bitcoin where each WBTC token is backed by an equal amount of Bitcoin held in a reserve. This allows Bitcoin to be used on the Ethereum network for trading, lending, and other decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. The entire process of creating WBTC is managed by a group of crypto custodians and relies on a trustless mechanism to ensure token holders have redeemable access to underlying Bitcoin.
